Purpose: The Haines Borough School District provides area wide public education in accordance with Alaska Statutes. The school district is operated by the School Board.

Composition: The School Board consists of seven parents and community members elected at large to staggered terms. The Board elects a chair and vice chair to one year terms. The elected chair serves as a presiding officer. The vice chair presides when the chair is absent.
